The Normal Heart

13 05 2014

Had the chance to watch a stage production of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart tonight, which I was very much looking forward to. As someone who’s been interested in the history of gay rights and HIV/AIDS (I loved How to Survive a Plague) and as someone who actually knows a bit about Kramer and what he’s done, I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed at the production. I think part of it was the production itself — noticeably low-budget for sure, but the acting was uneven all around. It did make me feel better about the TV movie version coming out later this month because it does look a lot better, more gut-wrenching than the version I watched. I would’ve loved to see the Broadway stage production too.

But in the meantime, until May 25th…
