I have made it a goal of mine to enter the Canada Writes Competition, hosted by the CBC, and I think I have a decent chance too. According to their site, they get about 4000 English entries every year, and 25% is Creative Non-fiction, which is 1000. Seems like a lot, but I feel that I’m not afraid to go talk more about gritty stuff like sexuality and all that messiness and making people feel sad too (apparently). Anyway, I don’t currently have anything written between 1200-1500 words at the moment (everything is longer), but I have ideas that might work. I just have to find the time to work on them, edit them over and over, and send it in. It’s exciting to think about, actually. And even if I don’t win, at least I’ll have written another piece, which, I want to do anyway.
